As pipeline operators continue to find pipeline degradation in the form of crack-like defects associated with stress corrosion cracking (SCC), having standardized and robust Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) procedures is essential to ensuring the safety and reliability of pipeline infrastructure. Prior PRCI projects (NDE-2-2g, NDE-4-6, IM-3C) identified key insights into the capabilities and limitations as well as identified standard practices to improve the reliability and repeatability of NDE for assessing SCC. PRCI commissioned research project NDE 4-6a to further investigate and document these recommended practices when using NDE to inspect for the threat of SCC. This report outlines these practices when applying NDE to characterize SCC.
