L22280 Exhaust Emission from Engines Used in Natural Gas Transmission Phase II 1978-79

A second phase baseline emissions survey was conducted on stationary reciprocating engines and gas turbines used in the gathering and transmission of natural gas. Emission rates for all tests were calculated in pounds per hour, pounds per million BTU heat input, and grams per horsepower-hour output. Emission rates of piston engines were determined at or as near to rated speed and load as possible and some relative comparisons were made. Emission trends for a number of reciprocating engines were developed as a function of engine operating parameters; such as ignition timing, scavenging air pressure, engine speed and load. Details are given on the preliminary changes made to the test procedure that was used in the initial survey conducted in 1972/1973.
