L51615 Ultrasonic Inspection of the Root Region of Girth Welds

Describes a test program involving two ultrasonic inspection techniques to permit characterization of pipeline girth weld defects which could discriminate benign weld profile features. The dual-probe method and the time-of-flight diffraction method are described and tested in computer simulation extending the technique to detect planar defects in the root region of pipeline welds.
