Several forms of fuller \u0026amp; clement sleeve exist to meet the needs of particular situations. In some cases, it is desirable to fillet weld the ends of the sleeve to the carrier pipe to create a repair which can retain full line pressure should the carrier pipe wall be breached. The circumferential weld also prevents moisture from entering the annular crevice between the sleeve and the carrier pipe which could produce further corrosion. In other cases, the sleeves are nonwelded and provide only mechanical reinforcement. These classes of sleeves are referred to as girth-welded and structural sleeves, respectively. The work described herein is aimed at determining how the critical buckling curvature of full-contact sleeves is affected by pipe diameter to wall thickness ratio (D\/t), sleeve length, sleeve type (girth-welded or structural sleeve), pipe strength grade, temperature differential and internal pressure.
