The coating porosity as a function of the relative specific gravity and density of plastic coatings is determined readily by float sink criteria in aqueous salt solutions of known densities.

The porosity (void content) of plastic coatings is calculated readily from the experimentally found density and the maximum density supplied by the powder manufacturer.
