One key capability investigated was the use of the higher resolution beam modes available from all these newer satellites. Satellite monitoring offers unique advantages to the industry in meeting the objectives of managing third party encroachment and potential for mechanical damage. Some of these advantages include: • The ability to identify damage threats; • The ability to monitor area footprints allowing the surveillance of the ROWs of multiple operators and the cost-sharing of these services; • The weather-independence monitoring, facilitated by radar imagery and analysis; and • The ability to monitor without installing equipment or infrastructure on the ROWs.
