PR337-241108-R01 Consensus Engineering Requirements for Integrity Management of Hydrogen Pipelines
Gaps have been identified in the current technical standards for integrity management of hydrogen pipelines. Integrity management of Gas Pipelines is covered by ASME B31.8S. The Pipeline Re-search Council International (PRCI) Emerging Fuels Institute (EFI) developed this project to create Consensus Engineering Requirements (CERs) for Integrity Management of Hydrogen pipe-lines. The CERs will serve as the basis for changes to ASME B31.8S to incorporate hydrogen gas and hydrogen gas blends. This report documents the CERs, and the process used to create them. The CERs will be passed to the ASME B31.8 hydrogen task group, who will progress their development into a future edition of ASME B31.8S. The CERs incorporate state of the art understanding for managing the integrity of hydrogen pipelines, drawing on the expertise of the authors and collaborators from EFI and other institutions. Once transferred to ASME B31.8S, the pipeline industry will use them for the integrity management of hydrogen and hydrogen gas blend pipelines.
